A little about Hill Top School
Hill Top was founded in 1915 by Miss Phyllis Boult in the family home in Maungawhau Road, Newmarket. She remained headmistress of the school until 1961. Her vision and direction established a school with high ideals, and an emphasis on developing the individual, providing access to all and providing children with educational excellence.
The Hill Top School Trust Board was formed in the 1950’s under the Chairmanship of Sir Joseph Stanton LL.B.Kt. The Trust Board acquired the 37 Heaphy Street site in Blockhouse Bay and the school moved there in 1959.
From 1959 to 2009 Hill Top School was is situated at 37 Heaphy Street, a quiet residential suburb of Blockhouse Bay The original homestead formed the administration centre for the school. The school enjoyed a range of well appointed special use and teaching classrooms located around a central court yard.
In 1975 the small secondary department was discontinued and boys were admitted.
In 2009, the Heaphy Rd site was sold and the school left the site in December.
